The morning number that doesn't add up
Say your review-request scan rate sits around 4% across your bracelet line this month. That's the blended number, and it looks fine — nothing screaming for attention. It's only when she splits the number by SKU that it stops looking fine: three bracelets scan at 5-6%, and one — her thinnest, most delicate chain — sits at 1.8% and has for months.
Dana runs one insert card design across all four SKUs. Same copy, same QR code, same "tag us for a chance to be featured" line. It's the efficient move — design once, print once, ship everywhere. She assumed that if the card works for three of four products, the fourth is just a slower mover, not a different problem.
Why "it works for the others" is the wrong test
The instinct here is to leave the card alone, because the aggregate numbers are acceptable and changing packaging feels like a bigger lift than it's worth for one SKU. Dana's actually run this logic before: when a single card underperforms inside a shared design, the fix people reach for is either "give it more time" or "redesign the whole line," and neither is right. What to measure after
The metric to watch isn't the blended scan rate across all four SKUs — that number was never diagnostic in the first place, which is how the problem hid for months. Watch the thin-chain card's scan rate in isolation over the next few print-and-ship cycles, and watch whether the review language that comes back through that specific QR code starts sounding like self-purchase language instead of gift language. If it does, the card is finally talking to the person actually holding it.
